New Everton signing Alex Iwobi was not considered for their Premier League season opener against Crystal Palace, but he will have the chance to win a place in the team for their next clash against Watford.
Iwobi, who joined the Toffees on a five-year deal for an initial fee of £28 million from Arsenal earlier this month, began training with his new club yesterday [Monday].
The Nigerian attacker faces an uphill task to be fit for Everton’s game against Watford at Goodison Park this coming Saturday, having not been a part of the Gunners’ pre-season campaign due to his participation in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
However, manager Marco Silva insists he will give the Super Eagles star a fair shot at breaking into the team.
Liverpool Echo quoted Silva as saying : ”He was on holiday after the Africa Cup [of Nations]. He starts on Monday and let’s see how he reacts but there is a big gap between him and his teammates, the physical condition will be a big gap, but let’s see.
“Normally my decisions are coming from the training sessions and let’s see how he will play, how he will do in the training sessions and after that I will take my decision on Friday.”
Everton began their season with a goalless stalemate away to Palace at Selhurst Park and will be aiming for their first win when the Hornets visit Merseyside.
