Africans set to shine in new Bundesliga campaign

The new 2019/20 German Bundesliga campaign will get underway this weekend and several African players are expected to be in action.


The first game of the season will be between Ivorian winger Salomon Kalou’s Hertha Berlin and Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Friday.


The experienced attacker has been appointed the club’s vice-captain and he will be keen to lead Hertha to victory over their defending champions.


Six matches are scheduled to be played on Saturday with Moroccan full-back Achraf Hakimi and his Borussia Dortmund team-mates will face Augsburg at the Signal Iduna Park.


Ghanaian midfielder Christopher Antwi-Adjei’s newly-promoted side SC Paderborn will travel to the BayArena where they are scheduled to take on Bayer Leverkusen.


DR Congolese defender Marcel Tisserand will be hoping to help VFL Wolfsburg start the new season with a victory over FC Koln.


At the Wohninvest Weserstadion, Werder Bremen will welcome Fortuna Düsseldorf, while Freiburg are set to take on Mainz 05 at the Schwarzwald-Stadion.


The last game of the day will between Guinea captain Ibrahim Traore’s Borussia Mönchengladbach and Schalke 04 at the Borussia Park.


Two matches scheduled to be played on Sunday with Eintracht Frankfurt, who have Guinean defender Simon Falette on their books, expected to face Hoffenheim at the Commerzbank-Arena.


Malian midfielder Amadou Haidara will be looking to inspire RB Leipzig to victory over newly-promoted Union Berlin at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.
