The opening match of the 2019 Africa Games men’s football tournament will be between hosts Morocco and South Africa on Friday.

Kick-off times in CAT.

The Group A encounter will take place at the Stade Moulay Hassan in Rabat. Kick-off is at 17h00.

Morocco, who are under the guidance of Jamal Sellami, have been tasked with winning the tournament and they will be under pressure to start the competition with a victory.

However, South Africa’s Amajita coach Helman Mkhalele will be looking to mastermind a victory over the Young Atlas Lions.

“It is truly up to this group of players to make full use of this opportunity and prove what they can offer at this level,” Mkhalele said.

The other Group A match will be between Burkina Faso and Nigeria at the Stade Moulay Hassan on Friday. Kick-off is at 20h00.

Nigeria are considered to be the favourites to win this match, but the Flying Eagles coach Paul Aigbogun knows that they cannot afford to underestimate Burkina Faso’s Young Stallions.

“It is going to be a collective effort, in which case we expect Nigerians to as usual stand behind us with their support,” Aigbogun told Complete Sports.

Meanwhile, Senegal are scheduled to take on Mali in the opening Group B match at the Stade Municipal in Kenitra on Saturday. Kick-off is at 17h00.

Senegal’s Young Lions of Teranga will be looking to start their group stage campaign with a win when they face the Young Eagles.

The other Group B match will be between Ghana and Burundi at the Stade Municipal in Kenitra on Saturday. Kick-off is at 20h00.

Burundi’s Young Swallows are hoping to cause an upset against the Black Satellites of Ghana, whose coach Yaw Preko knows every game will be difficult in the competition.

“The mere fact that a team has qualified for a tournament makes that team a strong one and every game in the tournament is going to be very difficult,” Preko told Ghana Soccer Net.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals at the end of the group stage campaign.
