Nigerian defender Jamilu Collins headlined African involvement in the afternoon Bundesliga matches on Saturday.
The Super Eagles man played the full 90 minutes (and Tunisia’s Mohamed Drager featured for 84) as his Paderborn side suffered a 3-2 loss away to Bayer Leverkusen.
Goals from Leon Bailey, Kai Havertz and Kevin Volland saw the hosts to victory in a five-goal thriller at the BayArena.
Elsewhere, Achraf Hakimi made an appearance as a second-half substitute for Borussia Dortmund in their 5-1 thrashing of Augsburg – featuring a brace from Spanish forward Paco Alcacer – Nigeria’s Taiwo Awoniyi was a late sub for Mainz in their 3-0 loss at Freiburg, and it was the same story for Tunisia’s Ellyes Skhiri in Koln’s 2-1 loss at Wolfsburg.
Dusseldorf won 3-1 at Werder Bremen but left three Ghanaians unused on their substitutes’ bench: Nuhu Kasim, Kelvin Ofori and Bernard Tekpetey.
