Thamsanqa Gabuza scored a second-half brace at Bidvest Stadium as SuperSport United claimed a 3-0 win over Bidvest Wits to book their spot in the semifinals of the 2019 MTN8 on Sunday.
The towering forward, who joined Matsatsantsa from Orlando Pirates before the start of the season, found the back of the net on two occasions after Bradley Grobler had opened the scoring in Johannesburg.
Following a rather uneventful first half, SuperSport hit the front in the 56th minute as Grobler showcased striker’s instinct by pouncing on a loose ball before firing past Brandon Petersen for his third goal of the week.
SuperSport doubled their lead in the 64th minute through Gabuza who nodded home from a Siyabonga Nhlapo cross for his first goal for the club, and the forward completed his brace with two minutes of regulation time renaming.
Zitha Macheke fouled Kudakwashe Mahachi inside the area, leaving the referee with no choice but to point to the spot. Gabuza duly stepped up, sending Petersen the wrong way to complete his double on the day.
