Belgian side KV Kortrijk have announced the capture of Comoros striker Faiz Selemani … but second-tier Royale Union Saint Gilloise say he is not for sale!
Selemani netted 17 goals last season for Union and was a nominee for the Player of the Season in the second-tier, which eventually went to South African Percy Tau, who has since moved to Club Brugge.
Kortrijk say they have now signed the 25-year-old Selemani, but Union are asking how that can be, as he is their player and they never gave permission for a transfer.
“Our club obviously does not intend to stop there and is considering what further action studies it can take with the Pro League, URBSFA [Belgium Football Association] and FIFA,” a statement from Union CEO Philippe Bormans said.
“It is inconceivable and disturbing that a person running a professional club, that is also part of the Pro League and the URBSFA, can engage in such doubtful practices. The image and credibility of Belgian football are once again being tarnished.”
Just where Selemani will be playing next season is anybody’s guess now, but Kortrijk have not moved to remove the story from their website as it is safe to assume they believe they are in the right.
