Zesco United striker Jesse Were has been recalled to the Kenya squad after surprisingly missing out on Africa Cup of Nations duty in Egypt.
The 30-year-old has been included in the first squad of new coach Francis Kimanzi for the friendly against neighbours Uganda on September 8, though it is a provisional selection for now.
But as he is one of only three forwards chosen, alongside Michael Olunga (Kashiwa Reysol FC, Japan) and John Avire (Sofapaka), it is likely he will be retained.
He also has a strong working relationship with Kimanzi having played under the coach at Mathare United and Tusker.
Kenya begin life under Kimanzi after their former coach Sebastien Migne, who was roundly criticised for his decision not to take Were to Egypt, left the team at the end of the tournament.
