African stars were in action for their clubs in top European leagues on Friday night.
Cameroonian defender Yan Brice Eteki was on the losing side as his club, Granada marked their return to the Spanish La Liga with a defeat.
The 21-year-old player was substituted in the 85th minute as Granada succumbed to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Sevilla at home.
Eteki’s countryman, Karl Toko Ekambi could not help Villarreal avoid a defeat against Levante in another La Liga clash.
Ekambi and Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze both started for Villarreal, who were edged out 2-1 by Levante away.
Chukwueze’s Super Eagles teammate Alex Iwobi was also on the losing side as his new club, Everton FC lost in an English Premier League match.
The attacking midfielder and his Everton teammates were defeated 2-0 by Egyptian winger Trezeguet’s Aston Villa away.
Trezeguet was replaced by his countryman Ahmed Elmohamady with four minutes left on the clock.
Lastly, Moroccan full-back Achraf Hakimi helped Borussia Dortmund secure an impressive victory over Cologne away in a German Bundesliga clash.
Hakimi was introduced in the second-half and he went on to score Dortmund’s second goal as they ran out 3-1 winners.
