Jordan Ayew has expressed his hope that the goal he scored against Manchester United this past weekend will be the start of something special for Crystal Palace.
The Black Stars forward opened the scoring for Palace in their surprise 2-1 win at Old Trafford on Saturday, coolly dispatching a first-half shot beyond Red Devils goalkeeper David De Gea.
The hosts hit back late in the game through Daniel James, but the Eagles stole the victory with a 90th-minute winner from Patrick van Aanholt.
Ayew’s goal-scoring performance saw him continue a promising start to the season, but he hopes that the strike sets him up to go to a whole new level through the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign.
“It’s nice to hear [the fans singing your name],” Ayew told Palace TV. “I’ll keep working hard and hopefully it’s just the beginning to come from me.
“I’m a striker, so I’m happy to score; we are all together, me and Christian [Benteke], it’s a good competition [between us].”
But Ayew said he was pleased for the team as a whole to claim a first win of the season at the third attempt.
“We are happy. I think we put in a good performance, and now we just need to enjoy the moment because it is not easy to come and win at Old Trafford.
“To come back and score a goal is a good thing for me, but like I said it was to do with team work. I have got to congratulate the guys for the three points.”
