Burkina Faso under-20 stunned their Nigerian counterparts 2-0 in the 2019 African Games final at the Stade Moulay Hassan in Morocco on Friday evening.
The result saw the Young Stallions clinch gold after winning the tournament, while the Flying Eagles scooped silver as runners-up.
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles came into the encounter as clear favourites despite the two teams having drawn 1-1 in their Group A clash.
The deadlock was broken six minutes before the half-hour mark and it was Djibril Ouattara, who found the back of the net.
The Morocco-based striker scored his fourth goal of the tournament to make it 1-0 to Burkina Faso.
Burkina Faso did not sit back and defend their lead as they pushed forward and they managed to double their lead.
This time it was Ismailia Ouedraogo, who scored to make it 2-0 to Burkina Faso on the half-hour mark.
The score was 2-0 to the Young Stallions at the interval.
The Flying Eagles pushed for at least two goals in the second-half, but they could not find the back of the net on the day.
Ultimately, Burkina Faso ran out 2-0 winners and they clinched the African Games title for the first time having finished second in the 2015 tournament.
