New Al Ahly coach Rene Weiler has targeted CAF Champions league success with the Egyptian giants as he was unveiled to the media on Monday.
Swiss tactician Weiler previously coached Belgian side Anderlecht in the UEFA Champions League and is keen to claim the African version with Ahly.
“We will do our best to win the CAF Champions League title as they have not won it for a long time,” he told reporters.
“We have to work with all players individually, and I promise all fans that they will be happy, as happiness always comes with victory.
“My working system will depend on the players’ style and qualities, so I will put my plan according to the players’ quality, so in general we will play with an offensive style to win.
“I know well the team’s great history and I am happy with the fans’ support. We will do our best and work every day to achieve positive results.”
The job is a first in Africa for Weiler, who did win the Belgian league with Anderlecht in the 2016/17 season, and had one cap for Switzerland as a player in 1997.
“It’s a chance for me to arrive in Africa to coach a big team,” he said. “I studied the team before my arrival in Egypt and I did my work as a coach and I am ready to lead the team.
“I ask Ahly fans to continue supporting the team and I am happy with this pressure.”
Ahly are next in action against modest Cano Sport in the Champions League on September 13, but will face arch-rivals Zamalek in the Egyptian Super Cup five days later, a first big test for Weiler.
