New Al Ahly head coach Rene Weiler says his target is to win all competitions with the club.
The Egyptian giants unveiled the Swiss coach on Monday and he will lead the Cairo Red Devils after signing a one year contract.
The 46-year-old succeeds Uruguayan Martin Lasarte, who was sacked last month.
“I’m proud to be here”, Weiler said in his unveiling press conference held at Al Ahly headquarters according to the CAF website.
“Al Ahly is a great club and I know everything about them. The pressure is never a problem for me and I know well they always play to win. I came here to continue this tradition.
“Our target is to win all competitions, and on top of the list is CAF Champions League,” he added.
“I know Ahly last won it in 2013 and that it’s their first priority. We will do our best to achieve that.
He is the first-ever Swiss coach to coach the record eight times African Champions who are desperate for a CAF Champions League glory, a title they last achieved in 2013.
Al Ahly qualified to the 2019-20 Total CAF Champions League first round where they will face Equatorial Guinea’s Cano Sport on 14 September in Malabo, which will mark Weiler’s first competitive mission with the Red Devils.
The return leg is scheduled a fortnight later in Egypt.
