Equatorial Guinea booked their place in the second round of 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying with a 1-0 (2-1 on aggregate) win over South Sudan at Nuevo Estadio de Malabo in Malabo on Sunday.


The two teams played to a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture in Omdurman, Sudan earlier this week. An own goal from Niko Kata cancelling out Luis Meseguer’s opener.


The result, left both teams with a lot to play for in Malabo in the second-leg.


Following a goalless first-half, Nzalang Nacional found the opener through captain and all-time top scorer Emilio Nsue in the 72nd minute.


Kike Boula, who like Nsue now plies his trade in Cyprus, teed up the Equatorial Guinea skipper who slid home a low shot to lead the hosts into the next round.
