Mozambique brushed aside Mauritius 2-0 in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification (CAF) first-round second-leg match on Tuesday afternoon.

As a result, the Mambas progressed to the second round qualifying after the winning the tie 3-0 on aggregate, while the Dodos crashed out of the qualifiers.

The second-leg match took place at the Estádio do Zimpeto in the capital city of Mozambique, Maputo.

The hosts got off to the perfect start as they broke the deadlock six minutes into the encounter with the Mauritius defence exposed.

Clésio Palmirim David Baúque was the man, who opened the scoring as he beat Kelvin Jean-Louis in the Mauritius goal-posts to make it 1-0 to Mozambique.

The Dodos had to find a way to penetrate the Mambas defence and level matters, but the hosts stood at the back, and the score was 1-0 to Mozambique at half-time.

The hosts continued to attack after the restart and they were awarded a penalty with 15 minutes left on the clock.

Geny Cipriano Catamo did not make any mistake from the spot-kick as he beat Jean-Louis to make it 2-0 to Mozambique.

The goal sealed Mozambique’s convincing 2-0 victory over Mauritius on the day.
