Zamalek have opted to rest winger Mahmoud Shikabala for their CAF Champions League second round clash away at Senegal’s Generation Foot on Saturday.
Coach Micho Sredojevic left the in-form star out of his travelling squad, seemingly to rest him for the Egyptian Super Cup meeting with rivals Al Ahly that follows their trip to west Africa.
Shikabala was influential in Zamalek winning the Egypt Cup with a 3-0 victory over Pyramids FC at the weekend, and has scored two goals and provided four assists since arriving back at the club at the start of the season.
The 33-year-old had previously been on loan at Saudi Arabia’s Al-Raed and Greek side Apollon Smyrni.
Karim Bambo, who was recently signed from Ismaily, could take the place of Shikabala.
However, the club was unable to register Moroccan winger Mohamed Ounajem for this round.
Zamalek have won their last five games in all competitions, scoring 18 goals and conceding none in the process.
