Chiefs stunned as Pirates end winless run

Orlando Pirates and Polokwane City both recorded victories in the Absa Premiership on Saturday.


Pirates snapped their three-match winless run in the competition when they edged out Chippa United 2-1 at home.


Tshegofatso Mabaso’s second-half brace inspired the Buccaneers to their second win of the campaign.


Pirates’ Soweto rivals, Kaizer Chiefs succumbed to their first defeat of the season when they stunned 1-0 by Polokwane City at home.


Jabulani Maluleke’s first-half penalty ensured that Rise and Shine overcame Amakhosi on the night.


Meanwhile, Lamontville Golden Arrows were held to a 1-1 stalemate by their KwaZulu-Natal rivals AmaZulu FC at home.


Nduduzo Sibiya opened the scoring for Abafana Besthende, but Bonginkosi Ntuli levelled matters for Usuthu.


Lastly, SuperSport United fought back to hold Cape Town City to a 3-3 stalemate at home in a thrilling match.


Thamsanqa Gabuza’s second-half goal ensured that the entertaining encounter ended in a draw on the night.
