Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns both registered victories in the 2019/20 CAF Champions League first-round first-leg matches on Saturday.


Record eight-time champions Al Ahly of Egypt secured a 2-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea side Cano Sport in Malabo.


However, Ahly’s local rivals, Zamalek were stunned 2-1 by Senegalese champions Generation Foot in Thies.


While 2016 winners Sundowns, who are the reigning South African champions, thumped Seychelles’ Cote d’Or 5-0 in Victoria.


Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko and Young Buffaloes both recorded home victories in the 2019/20 CAF Confederation Cup first-round first-leg games on Saturday.


Ghanaian giants Kotoko defeated last season’s runners-up RS Berkane of Morocco 3-2 in Kumasi.


Lastly, Eswatini outfit Young Buffaloes caused an upset when they overcame former South African champions Bidvest Wits 1-0 in Manzini.
