The coaches of Egypt’s top two teams have both looked to take the positives out of contrasting fortunes in their African Champions League matches at the weekend.

Zamalek went down 2-1 away at Senegal’s Generation Foot but new coach Milutin Sredojevich, who was in charge for only the fifth time, predicted the ‘White Knights’ would bounce back in the second leg at the end of the month because they would be stronger and at home.

“We played against a strong team that won by taking the advantage of playing at home backed by their fans,” the coach told ON Sport TV channel after the match in Dakar on Saturday.

“We dominated the game but we had two mistakes and got punished with the two goals. We have a big chance to reach the next round as we will restore four players to the team for the return match at home.

“We will have the same advantages in the return match and we will win because of playing at home among our fans,” Sredojevich added.

His Al Ahly counterpart Rene Weiler was in charge of the record African champions for the first time as they won 2-0 in Malabo against Equatorial Guinea’s Cano Sport Academy, also on Saturday.

“We managed to deliver a very good game in the first leg and that will make our mission easier in the return match in Cairo,” he was quoted as saying by the club’s official website after the match.

“We weren’t lucky today as we wasted many chances but I was happy to achieve my first win with Ahly. It was a difficult as time to prepare was limited so it is difficult to talk about any technical issues,” he added.
