South African Premier Soccer League side Chippa United have fired coach Clinton Larsen just five games into the new season.
Larsen had helped the side escape relegation last season, but just three points from a possible 15 has seen him axed early in the new campaign.
Chippa had drawn three of those games, but a 2-1 loss at Orlando Pirates on Saturday proved the final straw for club owner Chippa Mpengesi.
He told local radio station Umhlobo Wenene of the axing on Monday morning.
Mpengesi is notorious for sacking coaches and went through Dan Malesela and Eric Tinkler last season before settling on Larsen.
Assistant coach Duran Francis will take temporary charge of the side ahead of Saturday’s home clash with Bloemfontein Celtic.
Larsen has previously enjoyed success in coaching Celtic and Lamontville Golden Arrows, and although he stabilised Chippa, did not do enough to keep his job.
