Egyptian side Masry say their coach Ehab Galal will not leave for the national team post with The Pharaohs even if he is offered it as the country’s association has taken too long to make up their mind over a preferred candidate.
Galal was one of five names on an Egyptian Football Association (EFA) short-list and along with veteran three-time Cup of Nations winner Hassan Shehata, was seen as the favourite.
But the long delay in announcing a successor to Mexican Javier Aguirre, who was sacked in July, means Masry will be left with a problem should Galal depart as the new seasons gets under-way this weekend.
“We haven’t received any formal contacts from the Egyptian federation until now. If they wanted to hire him [Galal] they should have negotiated with us. The league will start in a few days and we have already started our Confederation Cup campaign,” Masry board member Adnan Halabeya told reporters.
“We have closed this chapter due to the delay in the decision. We don’t have time to find a replacement especially that the team will start its final preparation for the league that will start on Saturday then we will have a game in the Confederation Cup.
“Our interest is to keep Galal and he will be with us in the coming season.”
Galal had been in talks with the EFA over the post, but nothing more has materialised.
The three other names on the shortlist are former national team stars Hossam Hassan and Mido, as well as ex-Al Ahly coach Hossam El-Badry.
