Riyad Mahrez was Africa’s star performer in Wednesday night’s Uefa Champions League action.

The Algeria captain, who skippered the Dessert Foxes to Africa Cup of Nations glory in July, scored the opener and assisted the second for Manchester City in a 3-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine.

The Senegalese midfielder bossed the game as the hosts registered a memorable win over the record-time Champions League winners. Jean-Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting made an appearance of the bench for the home side.
