Ivory Coast defender Wilfried Kanon has moved from the Netherlands to Egypt, where he has signed a three-year contract with the ambitious Pyramids FC.
The 26-year-old joins just weeks before the kick off of the new league campaign in Egypt and in a surprise move at a time when he had been linked with a possible move to the Premier League in England.
Pyramids, who lost the Egyptian Cup to Zamalek a fortnight ago, have made 11 signings in anticipation of breaking the duopoly of Al Ahly and Zamalek in Egyptian football.
They have also bought Tunisia’s Amor Layouni from Bodo/Glimnt in Norway and Uganda international Lumala Abdu.
Kanon was a member of the Ivorian side that won the Africa Cup of Nations title in 2015 and also went to the finals in 2019 and earlier this year in Egypt.
He also played at Empoli in Italy, in Romania and spent six seasons in the top flight in the Netherlands with ADO Den Haag, playing over 100 games in the Ere Divisie.
