Both Eden Hazard and Lionel Messi voted for Senegal international Sadio Mane as their top pick for The Best Men’s Player of 2019.
Messi ousted long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk to win the award for the sixth time following a season in which he scored 51 goals and assisted another 22 in just 50 appearances.
The Argentine, though, voted for Mane as the best player in world football with Ronaldo and Frenkie de Jong rounding off his top three picks.
Mane also topped Real Madrid winger Eden Hazard’s top three picks, followed by Van Dijk and Messi.
The 27-year-old scored 26 goals in 50 appearances for the Reds across all competitions last season, playing a key role in leading Liverpool to Uefa Championship League glory.
He has continued on that trend in the current campaign, netting six goals in his first eight games this season.
