Another young starlet with Nigerian links has signed a professional contract at Arsenal as midfielder Miguel Azeez put pen-to-paper on a deal on Tuesday.
Azeez, 17, who has scored 12 goals in 14 appearances for England Under-17, is seen as a major talent and has already represented The Gunners’ Under-23 team in the Premier League 2.
He hopes to follow the likes of Alex Iwobi, Chuba Akpom and Bukayo Saka as players with Nigerian roots who have worked their way through the Arsenal development system to the Premier League.
Saka, 18, is the latest of those to shine having burst onto the scene this season with some eye-catching displays, including in Arsenal’s 5-0 English League Cup win over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.
London-born Azeez is seen as arguably the best of Arsenal’s next generation of emerging talent, and the Nigerian Football Federation could have another fight on their hands if they are to try and lure him away from England.
