South African second-tier side TS Galaxy advanced into the playoff round of the 2019/20 CAF Confederation Cup as part of seven matches played across the continent on Saturday.
The day’s opening game saw Galaxy continue their fairy tale run, as they won 3-1 (4-1 on aggregate) away to Madagascar’s CNaPS Sports thanks to goals from Sanele Barns (two) and Samkelo Shangase.
Zambia’s Zanaco and Zimbabwe’s Triangle United claimed home wins over Bolton City (Mauritius) and Azam (Tanzania) respectively to secure progression, while the East African derby between Uganda’s Proline and AS Kigali of Rwanda was won 2-1 (3-2 on aggregate) by the home side in Kampala, with Ivan Bogere netting a brace.
Benin side ESAE have advanced after they held Burkina Faso’s Salitas 0-0 in Ouagadougou – the tie was goalless across both legs and the away side triumphed 3-2 on penalties.
The late games from Morocco saw home sides Hassania Agadir and RS Berkane both secure playoff round berths. Hassania had to hold their nerves in a goalless home draw with Libya’s Al Ittihad, who saw them through on away goals (the first leg ended 1-1), while RSB took full advantage of an early red card for Ghanaian side Ashanti Gold and overturned a first-leg 2-3 deficit, winning 2-0 to advance 4-3 overall. Issoufou Dayo and Zaid Krouch netted the goals for the Oranges.
