Ghanaian striker Richmond Boakye has expressed his delight after scoring a first goal in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League earlier this week.

The 26-year-old netted the final goal in Red Star Belgrade’s 3-1 home win over Greek side Olympiako on Tuesday night.

Boakye scored in injury time at the end of the match, having come on as a substitute in the second half.

“I’m happy and I thank God for giving me this first goal in the Champions League this season,” Boakye said, as reported by Footballmadeinghana.

“It’s amazing and it’s a great feeling to just head the ball and watch how it flies into the net. It’s just amazing!

“All credit goes to almighty God because without Him, there’s is no Boakye-Yiadom.

“And I also thank all Ghanaians for their support. It’s a great feeling to be part of Champions League history!”

Boakye has scored three goals in the qualifying stages of the Champions League in past seasons, but Tuesday’s strike was his first in the tournament proper.
