AfricanFootball.com highlights six African Stars to watch in European club action this weekend.
Following an eye-catching performance from several African players in the Uefa Champions League and Europe League earlier this week, the continent’s top footballers will be hoping to continue on that trend this weekend.
Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City)
The Nigeria international has scored two goals in six Premier League appearances for Leicester City this season, as the Foxes continue to punch above their weight.
Ndidi and his teammates, though, will be in for their toughest test of the season thus far when they travel to Anfield to take on a rampant Liverpool side spearheaded by African Stars Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
Islam Slimani (AS Monaco)
Having struggled for form during an ill-fated stay in Leicester, the Algeria international has returned to form in extraordinary fashion at AS Monaco.
Slimani has scored four goals and assisted the same amount in just five French Ligue 1 games this season; helping a struggling Monaco side to back-to-back wins in their last two games. He will be hoping to continue his form away to Montpellier this weekend.
Rachid Alioui (SCO Angers)
The Moroccan forward has made a strong start to the season, scoring four goals and assisting another in eight games, including three in his last two French Ligue 1 appearances.
His form has been key to the club’s superb start to the season and they head to the French capital to take on champions Paris Saint-Germain this weekend knowing that victory will send them top.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal)
The Gabon international has scored seven goals in seven Premier League games this season, assisting or finding the back of the net in all of those matches for the Gunners.
It has been an incredible run of form for the forward who will be gunning to score his 50th goal for the North London club in just his 75th appearance when Arsenal host Bournemouth at the Emirates on Sunday.
Achraf Hakimi (Borussia Dortmund)
The Borussia Dortmund fullback, who is on-loan from Real Madrid, has been in incredible form for the best part of two seasons.
Having already showcased his versatility in playing at both left and right-back, the Morocco international scored two goals from midfield for the German Bundesliga club in midweek. He will be hoping to continue his good run of form as the ‘Yellow and Blacks’ aim to close the gap at the top.
Ramon Azeez (Granada CF)
Granada’s incredible start to the season has largely come down to a team effort. Promoted to the Spanish LaLiga just last season, El Grana have made an incredible start to the 2019/20 league season.
Heading into their match away to Real Madrid, the club sit just one point behind the league leaders and with a chance to go top. Nigeria’s Ramon Azeez has played his part in Granda’s strong start, scoring twice in five appearances this season.
