CAFCL Draw: Sundowns, Wydad to renew rivalry

Mamelodi Sundowns and Wydad Casablanca will renew their Caf Champions League rivalry after being drawn in the same group in Cairo, Egypt on Wednesday evening.

The Brazilians lost to Wydad in the semifinals of last season’s competition with the two teams regular adversaries on the continent over the past few years.

Wydad have gotten the better over their South African opponents in most of the meetings, especially in Morocco, but Sundowns will have a chance for revenge when they lock horns in the group stages of the 2019-20 Caf Champions League.

The two clubs are joined by Angola’s Atletico Petroleos and Algerian club U.S.M.A in Group C.

Egyptian giants and record eight-time champions Al Ahly were drawn in Group B while either Zamalek or Generation Foot will fall into Group A with the two teams set to meet in a postponed qualifier.

TP Mazembe were also drawn in Group A while their Democratic Republic of Congo rivals AS Vita were seeded in Group D alongside defending champions Esperance de Tunis and Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca.

The 2019-20 Caf Confederations Cup playoff round draw was also held on Wednesday evening, with a place in the group stages up for grabs.

Big-spending Pyramids FC while face Tanzania’s Young Africans over two legs while Enyimba will take on South African second division side TS Galaxy in selected fixtures.
