New Cameroon coach Toni Conceicao made a positive start to his job as a weakened Indomitable Lions, without many of their key players, held Tunisia to a goalless draw in their friendly international at the Rades Stadium, on the outskirts of the capital Tunis, on Saturday.
It was a generally lack lustre encounter for both teams, looking to reset after the last Africa Cup of Nations finals and get ready for next month’s kick off the 2021 qualifiers.
Cameroon were without the likes of Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting, Gaeton Bong and Stephane Bahoken but managed to look sharper in the second half.
But the home side, who were playing a third match under their new coach Mondher Kebaier, were much the stronger after the break, even though they were without the influential Wahbi Khazri and Youssef Msakni.
Ferjani Sassi won a penalty kick for the hosts but Taha Yassine Khenissi struck the effort against the post.
He had a chance to make amends just minutes later but struck the crossbar.
Next month Cameroon, who host the 2021 finals but are participating in the preliminaries, meet the Cape Verde Islands and Rwanda in Group F next month while Tunisia start against Libya and Equatorial Guinea in Group J.
