Former African champions Nigeria and South Africa were both in action on Sunday afternoon.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles were held to a 1-1 stalemate by the Little Canary of Brazil in an international friendly match at the Singapore National Stadium.

The Super Eagles were hoping to secure their maiden win over the Little Canary, who had won their previous meeting 3-0 in June 2003.

The Africans opened the scoring through John Aribo, who beat Brazil goalkeeper Ederson to make it 1-0 to Nigeria 10 minutes before half-time.

Five-time world champions then fought back and they equalised through Casemiro three minutes into the second-half and ultimately, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s Bafana Bafana edged out the Eagles of Mali 2-1 in an international friendly match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

It was Bafana’s first-ever win over the Eagles, who were also making their first appearance in the Nelson Mandela Challenge.

The hosts grabbed two first-half goals through Dean Furman and Themba Zwane, and they were leading 2-0 at half-time.

However, Mali managed to pull one back through Sekou Koita with 15 minutes left on the clock, but South Africa held to onto their lead and they ran out 2-1 winners on the day.
