Four teams advanced to the group stage of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification on Sunday.
Ezechiel N’Douassel was the hero for Chad as he scored the only goal of the match as Chad defeated Liberia 1-0 at the Stade Omnisports Idriss Mahamat Ouya in N’Djamena.
The tie ended in a 1-1 stalemate and Chad went on to win 5-4 on penalties, and they advanced to Group A which features Mali, Guinea and Namibia.
At the Stade Linité in Victoria, Joseph Kuch’s solitary goal helped South Sudan overcome Seychelles 1-0 on the day.
The victory saw South Sudan progress to the group stage after winning 3-1 on aggregate and they will now face Burkina Faso, Uganda and Malawi in Group A.
São Tomé and Príncipe secured a 2-1 victory over Mauritius at the Estádio Nacional 12 de Julho in São Tomé.
As a result, São Tomé and Príncipe reached the next round after winning the tie 5-2 on aggregate and they are set to take on Ghana, South Africa and Sudan in Group C.
Lastly, Gambia were held to a 1-1 stalemate by a stubborn Djbouti side at the Independence Stadium.
The tie ended in a 2-2 draw on aggregate and the Gambia won 3-2 on penalties, and they advanced to Group D which features DR Congo, Gabon and Angola.
The group stage matches will be played between November 2019 and November 2020.
