Three days after an impressive draw with African champions Algeria last week, the Democratic Republic of Congo came back down to earth on Sunday as the Ivory Coast beat them 3-1 in their friendly international in Amiens, France.
Wilfried Zaha was at his imperial best as he led the attack and inspirted the Elephants to success.
Wilfried Kanon opened the scoring in the 22nd minute and Nicolas Pépé added a second one minute before half-time to see the Ivorians 2-0 up at the break.
Chadrac Akolo reduced the deficit in the 64th minute and gave the Congolese some hope of as comeback after a mistake by Ghislain Konan.
It almost happened 10 minutes later when Cedric Bakambu struck the post.
But Zaha put a cherry on top of his personal performance with a stoppage time goal to restore the two goals advantage.
Both countries now turn their attention to the start of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next month.
