Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Oupa Manyisa looks set to miss the remainder of the season.
The 31-year-old was hoping to state his case for a more regular place in the starting XI during the Brazilians mid-season friendly against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, but was forced from the field in the first half due to injury.
Early fears suggest that Manyisa will miss the rest of the 2019/20 season, having managed just nine appearances over the past two campaigns for the Tshwane club.
“I think his Achilles is gone. I think that’s it for him for the rest of the season and it’s very sad,” Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane told the media following the club’s 4-2 loss in the Shell Helix Ultra Cup.
Manyisa took to Twitter on Sunday to thank those who wished him a speedy recovery:
“Tnx (sic) for all the messages of support. Sometimes things happen we don’t understand, but we keep faith that it all happens for a reason. Looking forward to being back out there again doing what I love,” he tweeted.
