USM Alger coach Billel Dziri says his side have been drawn into a tough group in the African Champions League but are still confident they will be able to book their place in the next round of the African Champions League.
In a belated reaction to last week’s draw, where USMA were placed in Group C alongside Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Petro Atletico (Angola) and Wydad Casablanca from neighbouring Morocco, Dziri said: “It’s a difficult group against opponents who have been playing a lot in the Champions League over recent years, including Wydad Casablanca and Mamelodi Sundowns, but we have nothing to fear.
“We will give ourselves the best chance possible and believe in our ability,” he added.
“We will give the best of ourselves to ensure we get our qualifying ticket for the quarter-finals of the African Champions League.”
To do so, the USMA coach said the formula was simple.
“We must win all our home games and try to bring back the maximum points from our away trips if we hope to qualify.
“It’s true, the long trips to South Africa and Angola will. Not be easy for us but what do you want us to do, we are in Africa and we are therefore expecting a lot of challenges.
“We must overcome everything if we want to qualify for the quarter-finals of the prestigious continental competition,” Dziri added.
