African champions Algeria claimed a 3-0 victory over Colombia in Lille on Tuesday, their first match on French soil in 11 years.
Around 40,000 fans from the large Algerian diaspora in France turned up for the eagerly-awaited clash and saw Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez grab a brace after Baghdad Bounedjah had put them ahead.
The latter struck in the 16th minute as he blasted the ball past Colombia goalkeeper David Ospina, and shortly afterwards the influential Mahrez added a second.
The win was secured 20 minutes into the second period when Mahrez secured his brace.
Algeria are hoping to play world champions France next year and the Lille fixture was therefore something of a test.
The North African side had not played in the country since an ugly pitch invasion in 2008 when they trailed France 4-1 in a friendly meeting.
