Ivory Coast midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin will miss the start of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after it was confirmed he would be out for the next three months following surgery on his thigh.
The 24-year-old has also sat out the last two months at Everton with the issue, before it was finally decided that the £25-million capture from Mainz would go under the knife.
He will miss the Ivory Coast’s qualifiers home to Niger and away in Ethiopia next month, and will target a return for the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup preliminaries in March.
It is also a massive glow for Everton, with Gbamin brought in to replace Idrissa Gueye, but not having featured since the home win over Watford on August 17.
