Nigeria international Victor Osimhen has been named the best player in France’s Ligue 1 for September.
The trophy is handed our monthly by UNFP, the Union Nationale des Footballeurs Professionnels, which is the players’ union in France and voted for its members.
The 20-year-old Super Eagles striker polled 45% of the vote, ahead of AS Monaco and Algeria forward Islam Slimani (37%) and Nantes defender Nicolas Pallois (18%).
In August the award was won by the 16-year-old Angolan born midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, who plays at Stade Rennes.
“Author of a thunderous start to the season, the Nigerian international has quickly confirmed all the hopes that his new club Lille have placed in him,” said a UNFP statement.
Osimhen has scored seven goals in nine Ligue 1 games since his 12-million Euro move from Belgium’s Charleroi.
“He asserts himself week after week as the worthy successor of Nicolas Pepe, who has since moved across the English Channel to Arsenal,” the statement added.
