Egypt manager Hossam El-Badry says he is yet to decide on the new Pharaohs’ captain.
This comes after reports indicating that Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah could be named new Egypt captain emerged.
Ahmed Fathi captained the Pharaohs as they defeated Botswana 1-0 in a friendly match in what was El-Badry’s first game in charge of the team.
Salah is expected to return to the Egypt squad ahead of the next Fifa international break in November 2019.
“There is no certainties regarding Egypt’s captain armband. It’s not necessary that the oldest player or the biggest star on the team is named captain,” El-Badry told Al Hadath channel.
“The captaincy has certain criteria and requirements. Will Salah be the captain? We haven’t decided that until now.
“We are still in the evaluation phase and we will decide the best for the national team. The captain must be someone that plays regularly with his team that is respected and appreciated,” he added.
“I will first speak with the veteran players to know their opinion and based on that the technical staff will take their decision,” he added.
