Mali have confirmed Mohamed Magassouba as their permanent coach, two years after he was handed the position on a temporary basis.
Magassouba took over from Alain Giresse in September 2017, and has also acted as the association’s technical director, a role he will now relinquish to focus solely on the senior national team.
“Mohamed Magassouba is confirmed as national coach the Eagles of Mali by the executive committee of Femafoot on Tuesday, October 22, 2019,” the Malian Football Federation said in a statement. “However, he will leave his position as of national technical director.”
Magassouba failed to lead Mali past the second round at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, but has been entrusted with the preliminaries for the 2021 competition and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Mali open their Nations Cup qualification campaign at home to Guinea on November 14, before a trip to Chad three days later. Namibia are the other team in the pool.
