AfricanFootball.com identifies FIVE players to keep an eye on in European club football action this weekend.

No fewer than five African stars were included in the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or earlier this week in what is shaping up to be a golden era for the African continent.

Not only does Africa boast representatives in all the top league across Europe, but some of the best players in world football come from the continent.

Here are FIVE players to watch this weekend:

Islam Slimani

With five goals and seven assists in seven Ligue 1 games, not even the most loyal of supporter could’ve predicted the Algerian’s instant impact at AS Monaco this season.

The burly forward has been immense for the struggling French giants, contributing directly to at least one goal in every game he has played for the club this season. He will be hoping to build on his good run of form away to Nantes this evening.

Alex Iwobi

The Nigeria international would’ve taken the move away from Arsenal with a heavy heart, but having overcome the initial disappointment Iwobi is slowly growing into an integral member of the Everton squad.

Following an eye-catching display against West Ham United last weekend, the winger will be eager to lead his side to victory away to Brighton on Saturday.

Dieumerci Mbokani

The top scorer in the Belgium Pro League this season, Mbokani has reignited his career in Antwerp.

With 11 goals and seven assists in 15 games across all competitions this season, the burly forward is finding the back of the net for fun.

His contribution has been key to Antwerp’s good start, but having failed to win in their last three games – despite scoring in all three – the Democratic Republic of Congo forward will be hoping his goals lead to three points this weekend.

Nicolas Pépe

The Ivory Coast international came under some heavy fire following Arsenal’s embarrassing loss away to Sheffield United on Monday evening, but he responded in emphatic fashion.

With two free-kick goals in the dying stages of what ultimately resulted in a 3-2 win for the Gunners in the Europa League on Thursday, the former Lille speedster has set the perfect platform to kick on from as North London club aim to return to winning ways in the league.

Sadio Mane

Arguably Africa’s best player at present time, Mane has been in superb form this season and alongside Mohamed Salah the duo form part of one of the best attacking units in world football at the moment.

The Senegal international will expected to build on his good run of form when Liverpool host a determined Tottenham Hotspur side at Anfield this weekend.
