Two Absa Premiership matches were played on Friday with Cape Town City facing Maritzburg United, while SuperSport United hosted Black Leopards.
City played host to Maritzburg at the 2010 FIFA World Cup venue, Cape Town Stadium in the Mother City.
The two teams created chances in the first half and the visitors were awarded a penalty just before the half-time break.
Thabiso Kutumela hit the back of the net from the spot-kick and Maritzburg were leading 1-0 during the break.
City pushed for the equalising goal after the restart, but they could not beat Maritzburg goalkeeper Richard Ofori on the night.
Ultimately, Maritzburg managed to hold onto their slender lead in the closing stages of the game and they emerged 1-0 winners over City.
At the Lucas Moripe Stadium, SuperSport United welcomed Black Leopards in the South African capital city, Pretoria.
The hosts opened the scoring through Abrey Modiba to make it 1-0 to SuperSport just after the half-hour mark.
However, the score was 2-2 at the interval after Chris Katjiukua hit the back of the net just before the half-time break.
SuperSport managed to restore their lead through Thamsanqa Gabuza to make it 2-1 just after the hour-mark.
However, Pentjie Zulu had other ideas as he scored a late penalty to ensure that Leopards drew 1-1 with SuperSport.
