Former Mozambique international striker Dario Monteiro, who played in Portugal and South Africa, is to take over at Desportivo Maputo after they fired their coach Artur Semedo.

Club president Inácio Bernardo said Semedo had been fired after a series of poor results for the team from the capital.

Desportivo have not won any of their last nine games and last Sunday were handed a 3-0 hiding by champions UD Songo.

Desportivo, who are six time champions, are down in 12th place.

Dário Monteiro started his career at Desportivo before moving to Academica Coimbra, Vitoria Guimaraes and Estrela Amadora in Portugal. He then played in Greece and for Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United in South Africa.
