The Ivory Coast Under-23 team have received a timely boost with news that Genoa agreed to release in-form striker Christian Kouame for the Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Due to the tournament not falling within the FIFA international match calendar, clubs are not obliged to release players.
Genoa, though, have agreed to let Kouame join his teammates in Egypt and he will form part of the 21-man squad hoping to qualify for next year’s Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
Kouame, 21, has scored five goals in 10 Serie A appearances this season, including a consolation strike in Genoa’s 2-1 defeat away to champions Juventus this week.
He made his senior team debut for the Elephants in a 3-1 home win over DR Congo a few weeks ago.
Ivory Coast are in Group B alongside Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia.
