Senegal succumbed to a 1-0 loss to Japan in their final FIFA World Cup Group D clash on Saturday, finishing the pool in second place to set up a knockout contest with likely either Argentina or Spain.
Japan substitute Jun Nishikawa scored the only goal on the game in the second period, but that came after Shinya Nakano had hit the crossbar in a game of few chances.
Senegal had picked a changed side with their knockout qualification already secured after two wins and left leading scorer Pape Sarr on the bench.
More powerful than their opponents, they could not use their strength and size to create chances and offered little in the match going forward.
Cameroon will be next in action on Sunday when they take on Spain and Senegal will be interested spectators as the fixture could have a a bearing on who they meet in the next round.
