Former Ivory Coast international Yaya Toure received his marching orders after just 10 seconds in what could be his final game as a professional footballer.
The former Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder kicked out at an opponent mere seconds after the start of the match, prompting the referee to send the Ivorian for a – very – early shower after receiving assistance from VAR.
Nevertheless, Toure’s Qingdao Huanghai still managed to claim Chinese League One glory despite going down 2-1 to Nantong Zhiyun as they now look forward to competing in the Super League next season.
The 36-year-old joined Huanghai in July following an unsuccessful return to Greek giants Olympiacos, playing a key role in leading the club to promotion.
Toure has enjoyed an incredible career, having played a huge role in the success achieved by both Barca and City over the last decade.
The four-time African Footballer of the Year also spearhead the Elephants to 2015 Africa Cup of Nations glory.
