The acting CEO of the South African Football Association (SAFA), Russell Paul, has left the organization to take up a post with the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The loss of Paul, a diligent administrator and key figure as SAFA negotiates some stormy waters, will be a blow to president Danny Jordaan, who also counted on him as a key ally.
Paul became acting CEO in September 2018 when another Jordaan ally, Dennis Mumble, surprisingly quit the organization with no explanation.
The new position with the Qatar World Cup will be a boost to the profile of Paul, who is highly regarded in local football circles.
