The promising runs of Nigeria and Angola at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup have come to an end after both were dumped out of the tournament in Brazil on Tuesday.
Nigeria lost 3-1 to the Netherlands in their second round match after Ajax Amsterdam forward Sontje Hansen netted a hat-trick for the Dutch.
The African side was on the back foot when Sontje struck twice in the opening 15 minutes, before he added a late penalty.
Olakunle Olusegun had brought Nigeria back into the game with a fine turn and finish, but they could not rediscover their form of the pool stages and bow out meekly.
Angola’s campaign also came to a disappointing end as they were beaten 1-0 by South Korea.
Choi Minseo scored the only goal in the 33rd minute, with the Angolan attacking duo of Zini and Zito unable to breach their defence.
Senegal are the last remaining hope for Africa as they face Spain on Wednesday in their second round clash. Cameroon exited in the pool stages.
