Following the highs of Tuesday, it was a difficult evening for Africa’s stars in the Uefa Champions League on Wednesday evening.
Tunisia’s Yassine Meriah was amongst the starters for Olympiacos in a 2-0 loss away to Bayern Munich. Following a goalless first half, the German’s turned on the style in the second to book their place in the knockout stages.
It was also a tough night for Riyad Mahrez and his Manchester City teammates who were held to a 1-1 draw away to Atalanta, while Thomas Partey netted an own goal in Atletico Madrid’s 2-1 loss to Bayern Leverkusen.
The Ghana international registered a late assist, but the goal would come too late for the Spanish club as they fell to a narrow defeat.
Serge Aurier wasn’t part of the travelling squad as Tottenham Hotspur thumped Crvena Zvezda 4-0 while Mbaye Diagne missed a penalty for Club Brugge in a 1-0 loss away to Paris Saint-Germain.
It was also a difficult night for Galatasaray’s African contingent as they slumped to a 6-0 loss away to Real Madrid.
