Egypt face a worry over the fitness of Mo Salah ahead of the start of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after a succession lackluster performances for his English side Liverpool.
Salah has been playing for The Reds since he picked up an ankle injury against Leicester City last month, but a number of pundits have pointed out that he looks below par.
The latest is former Liverpool star Phil Thompson, who says Salah looks a pale shadow of his usual self.
“It is a concern. The ankle injury that he had, it’s just that push off the mark. It doesn’t look as though he’s free-flowing,” Thompson told Sky Sport.
“He’s just not getting away from people as you have seen that burst of speed. He’s getting away, but it’s only within tackling distance.
“His shooting certainly wasn’t on target against Genk [in the Champions League] and maybe he is saving them all for something.”
Salah is expected to be a key player for new Egypt coach Hossam El Badry when they play Kenya at the start of the qualifiers on November 14, before an away trip to Comoros four days later for their second game.
