AfricanFootball.com identifies FIVE African stars to keep an eye on in European club action this weekend.
Following some eye-catching displays from several of Africa’s biggest stars in the Uefa Champions League and Europa League earlier this week, we pick five players to carry that momentum into this weekend’s round of action!
The Morocco international has been in superb form for Borussia Dortmund this season and will have his work cut-out as the Black and Yellows take on champions Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga this weekend.
Be it in midfield, right or left-back, Hakimi seems to be comfortable in every position on the pitch. With six goals in in 17 matches across all competitions, he is no novice in front of goal either and will be key if Dortmund are to make a massive statement on Saturday.
The Burkina Faso international has struggled to get going this season, but a goal in Lyon’s Uefa Champions League win over Benfica this week will come as a timely confidence booster.
Troare has yet to take his game to the next level since breaking onto the scene – first at Chelsea and then in the red and white of Ajax Amsterdam – but at only 24, he still has his best years ahead of him as Lyon prepare to take on French Ligue 1 rivals Marseille on Sunday.
Following his incredible display in Ajax Amsterdam’s 4-4 draw away to Chelsea earlier this week, Ziyech – for the umpteenth time over the last few months especially – proved as to why it was such a shock that the Dutch giants were able to hold onto him for another season.
The Moroccan wizard has directly contributed to 20 goals in 20 games this season and at this rate teams will be knocking down Ajax’s door in January.
The Egypt international is due a big game and what bigger game on the English Premier League calendar this season than Liverpool vs Manchester City at Anfield.
Salah has directly contributed to 13 goals this season and while some might say his form has dipped over the last few months, there is no doubting his class and importance to the Reds cause.
Having played a huge role in Liverpool’s last league win over City, eyes will be fixed on the wing-wizard as the club aim to extend their lead at the top.
Leicester City have enjoyed an incredible start to the English Premier League season and were it not for Liverpool and City, the Foxes would be garnering a lot more airtime! They might not have been involved in Europe this week, but at this pace the King Power Stadium will be welcoming the continent’s elite once more next season.
Nigeria’s Ndidi has been key to Leicester’s strong start and with a crunch clash against Arsenal lined up this weekend, one can expect the midfielder to have a big game once more.
